House
Ok…It’s been a while…things have been crazy. Overall good but crazy. We are trying to sell our place and buy a new house. This has involved completely overhauling our condo. We had to box up a bunch of books, DVD’s, CD’s, and anything else that made our place look cluttered. Luckily, we have a storage garage that we rent so we could store it all there. Then we have to maintain a better level of clean than we had in the past. Now we aren’t living in filth but we also aren’t the cleanest people in the world so this has involved cleaning up a lot more often than we are used to. In all honesty, I hope it sticks since I like living in a more clutter free place than we used to live in.
The next step has been looking for a house. At first this was frustrating because we weren’t finding anything that was nice in our lower price range. So we had to suck it up and go to the high end of our price range. In the end this is probably still the cheaper route since the lower end had houses that needed completely new kitchens and baths. The higher range houses (on the whole) have had newer kitchens and baths. Big cost that we don’t have to take on.
So we finally found a house that we like. We have been going through the negotiating process and it is slow and frustrating. We finally agreed on a price. Half way between what they wanted and what we wanted. Ok fine. Then we had an inspection done. There were some areas of concern. Nothing drastic but still things that we wanted either fixed or credit for. They came back and said they would fix certain items. One being having the furnaces (there are 2) serviced, cleaned, and repaired. Well they came back and said that after looking at the furnaces that they are fine. Well we want a licensed professional to do the work and sign off on that fact. They are baulking at that.
Plus we are fighting over the amount of tax proration that they are willing to give us for the 2006 year that is paid in 2007. The assessed value is 40% higher this year than last year. But we are only asking for 120% of last years taxes. They want to give us 115%.
So we have put our foot down. We told them that this is what we want and that this is our final offer. We are in a better position than they are. We haven’t sold our place yet but they have sold theirs. They have already moved out and need to sell this soon in order to not pay 2 mortgages for a long time. If they bail out on us, they could take another 2 to 3 months to sell it again. Up to them. They could decide to do this and that is the chance we are willing to take.
So that is most of the news hear for now. More news will be coming next week. Stay tuned!!!
