our vacation continued...
Funny side story before I tell the rest of the vacation/wedding.
Oreo had an interesting way of waking me up the other night. I jumped and was wide awake when I felt something really light touch my lips. Turns out it was Oreo’s whiskers. I’m not sure who was freaked out more, me or him. He jumped back when I let out a startled noise. He looked at me like why did you do that. Let’s see. I was completely asleep as it was 4 in the morning and something tickled my lips. Yeah….I can see where he would be surprised. Crazy cat.
Now back to reminiscing about warm weather. The other wedding guests showed up around dinner time on Wednesday. This includes bashbaby and her boy, along with the groom’s dad and aunt. We all got along very well. The bride and groom were showing up around midnight. The rest of the group was very tired from their long day of travel so they went to bed. Ben and I left a note at the front desk letting the bride and groom know to call us in our room when they got in. They called around 12:30am. They were pretty tired and said they would just see us at breakfast the next morning.
The next day was very nice. We were able to have a great breakfast in Jaco. Then we were able to do some souvenir shopping since this was pretty much the only time the rest of them would be able to do that. We were also able to show them the beach. It was a great time.
We sent the bride and groom back to the hotel so they could have their couple’s massage. The rest of us wandered around a little more and then grabbed a cab back. We relaxed by the pool for a couple hours. The weather was perfect.
After that, we met up at the amphitheater to watch the sunset. There are no words to describe how amazing it was. I will post a link to the pictures when we get them uploaded. After that, we had dinner and then we rehearsed the wedding. Everything went great.
At this point, bashbaby, the bride, and myself separated ourselves from the boys and the groom’s aunt and went back to the bride’s villa for the night. We were able to enjoy the hot tub and talk. We crashed around midnight. The boys on the other hand, closed the hotel bar at 10pm then headed to Jaco to have some more beers. They had a great time from what I was told.
The next day is the wedding. Bashbaby and I stayed with the bride all day helping her get ready for her big day. We had manicures and pedicures. Bashbaby did a great job putting the bride’s hair up. She was quite nervous since the bride has very unique hair. But it turned out beautiful. The bride was very happy!!! Yeah. The photographer showed up around 2pm for individual shots of the bride and then went to take pictures of the groom and his group.
The wedding was on the beach. It was a very unique and lovely ceremony. We took pictures afterwards just as the sun was setting. We had appetizers and some drinks at the beach. Then we headed up to the hotel for a dinner reception. They had their first dance followed by the groom breaking the glass per Jewish tradition. He had on Birkenstock shoes and the broken glass actually embedded itself into his shoe. Good thing it was a thicker sole otherwise he might have had it in his foot. Dinner was good. And desert was great.
We sat around talking for a bit then headed back to our rooms as it had been a really long day and we had to be up early for our hike the next day.
We had an hour and a half ride to the rainforest. Our guide was great. He found animals that I would have no idea how to find. We were shown spiders, lizards, bats, sloth, and monkeys. Along with a bunch of butterflies and other animals/bugs. It was wonderful.
After that, the group split up. 5 of us went on a canopy tour, 2 went on a kayaking tour, and one relaxed by the beach. The 2 who went kayaking have a fear of heights and the canopy tour is very high up in the trees. The one who sat out at the beach has a bad back so couldn’t do the canopy either. She was sad about that since it’s something she would love to do.
The canopy tour was so cool. I recommend it to anyone who isn’t afraid of heights. We were strapped to these zip lines and slid from tree to tree. Some of the lines were up to 0.25 miles long. That’s pretty far when you are zipping from tree to tree. I did work my arms a bunch since if you were shorter, you had to lift yourself up so they could attach you to the wire and to detach you from it too.
This was our last night, so we went out for a very nice dinner in Jaco. The food was great along with the atmosphere. We were right on the beach but it was so dark that you couldn’t even see the water.
After that we returned to the real world.
